THE COMPETITION
You have stumbled upon our MIST Team page, which is fortunate for you if you love having fun, healthy competition and learning and using your knowledge of Islam! MIST (Muslim Interscholastic Tournament) gathers Muslim teenagers regionally and then nationally to compete in a myriad of competition, ranging from science fair to social media. It gives Muslim students across the city and the suburbs to interact, communicate, compete and strengthen the Ummah. It is a weekend long event regionally and nationally. If you want to learn more about MIST, its history, competitions and the rulebook, please visit the national website for more information here. THE TEAM
The experience as a team was eye opening. Being surrounded by students just like you at every corner, all praying to Allah (SWT) for success just like you; it was amazing. MIST became a great outlet for Jama'ah Club to make contact with Muslims outside of school and outside of the city. It was also enjoyable being called the Alimah team (which, insha'Allah will change in the upcoming tournament). Last year, brothers joined the Northside MIST team. The Alimah team was not the Alimah team anymore. Northside's MIST experience of 2014 might have topped 2013, if we had placed ( just kidding!). MIST was even more enjoyable than ever. Having a bit of an established rep along with knowing our way around all the activities really helped make the MIST experience engaging.
MIST 2015 was even more exciting! Here's to hoping that MIST 2016 is as good as past years, insha'Allah! |
Northside first participated in MIST Chicago in 2013 as the only school actually from the city, with a small team of about 15 sisters. MIST was a new experience for city schools and Northside became the guinea pig. Encouraged by almuni, the Northside team was hesitantly formed, because no one was really sure of the new start for Jama'ah Club.
Though composing of such a small team, Northside participated in almost all the major categories its first year, from knowledge tests to MIST Bowl (the most competitive) to Math Olympics. The Northside team, though small and only composed of sisters, was able to strive past all to show that they were dead set on making a presence and showing school spirit. Northside was fortunate in their success as team. For the team's first year, they worked hard, studied hard and fought hard together, bringing this tight knit group of Muslim students even closer together. Placing 3rd overall was not too shabby, and the Northside team continues to strive for that sort of success but puts the experience of MIST and becoming involved in with Muslim youths across the Chicagoland and across the nation first.
JOINING THE TEAMBecoming part of the Northside team is a simple process. Contact the current Shura and take a look at the blog to get more information about MIST meetings and the logistics of joining the team. Use the regional website to find out about dates and deadlines and the national website to see what competitions you would be interested in (all linked above).
Unfortunately, the registration for the 2016 Regional Competition has closed, but don't fret! There is always next year, insha'Allah! IF YOU ARE A CURRENT MEMBER OF THE 2K16 TEAM, PLEASE DIRECT YOURSELF TO THE BLOG FOR UPDATES! |
